Yoga props are tools, not shortcuts

Blocks, straps and cushions can change how a position is supported. Their value depends on whether they improve comfort and stability for the person using them.

Ask what the prop changes

A teacher should be able to explain its purpose. Avoid copying a setup solely because it looks more advanced or more correct.

Check stability first

Use equipment on a surface where it will not slide. Household substitutes should be firm enough for the intended support.

Avoid buying everything at once

Attend a class that lends equipment or ask what is essential. A basic supported practice may require very little.

Try this today

Before purchasing a prop, identify the specific problem it will solve and ask an instructor to show you its use.

General wellbeing information, not medical advice. Yoga may not suit every condition. For pregnancy, injuries or health concerns, ask a qualified clinician and instructor about individual adaptations. Stop any practice that causes pain, dizziness or distress. NCCIH: yoga safety and evidence.
