Breathing breaks without counting or holding your breath

A breathing exercise does not have to involve complicated ratios. Paying gentle attention to ordinary breathing may be a more comfortable starting point for some people.

Stay in a supported position

Sit or stand where you feel steady. Keep your eyes open if that makes the experience more comfortable.

Avoid forcing a deep breath

Notice a few natural breaths without trying to maximize their size. Stop if you become dizzy, breathless or more distressed.

Use another anchor when needed

Listen to nearby sounds or feel your feet on the floor. Breath-focused attention is optional and does not suit everyone.

Try this today

Take thirty seconds to notice ordinary breathing, then return to your activity. No breath retention is needed.
